The Maryland State Department of Education has published new resources to help parents become familiar with the new state assessment known as PARCC, which many Maryland students in grades three through high school will begin taking in March. PARCC will help us measure students' progress toward grade-level mastery as well as graduation. Feel free to share these resources with parents, educators, and students.
Please visit: www.marylandpublicschool.org and click on "Prepare for PARCC." You may also sign up for updates on PARCC and other topics of interest here. |

COMMON CORE INFORMATION
Top 10 Things Parents Need to Know about the Common Core
To assist in understanding the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), BCPS has on its Web site information about CCSS. The CCSS are not a state mandated curriculum. The CCSS establish what BCPS students need to know at targeted intervals during their K-12 educational experience. The link on the BCPS Web site has updated information on the CCSS, along with a section of Frequently Asked Questions. The link to the Web site is http://www.bcps.org/academics/commoncore.html.
Common Core Videos
On behalf of Dr. Lillian Lowery, Maryland State Department of Education is delighted to let you know that Maryland Public Television (MPT) has produced several Common Core video interstitials (formerly known as PSA spots). We believe they are very effective in communicating our key messages in a brief, easy-to-understand format. They will begin to air on MPT within the next week or two. At the link below you will find a webpage with each of the final interstitials. We will be posting the spots on our website. We have also received approval from MPT to show the video spots on local education channels.
